#AD Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick

[As denoted by #AD in the title, this is a paid for collaboration with Bobbi Brown.] When it comes to foundation, I’m definitely not an adventurer. I know what I like and stick to it. My preference is for loose, liquid foundations that I can apply with a brush and blend quickly. I don’t like stick foundations, no, no, absolutely no sticks.

Except it turns out that I DO very much like a stick foundation after being firmly pushed out of my coverage comfort zone at a Bobbi Brown Pop Up Café last week. The Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick has an impressive 43 shades after adding 14 new tones to their line-up to address the variance in undertones. I was colour-matched at the café and to my surprise, I wasn’t a warm tone at all in this range – I’m Cool Beige, although I should imagine that will change as the weather gets better and my tone warms.

Like any foundation, stick coverage needs good skin prep, but I’d say stick needs a fraction more prep than liquid. I’m lazy in that respect, so when a Bobbi Brown Make Up Artist applied moisturiser (Bobbi Brown Hydrating Cream) before the colour, I was reminded that it does make a real difference. The thing about having a tone true foundation (of any sort) is that it gives your face a very natural and perfected look because there’s nothing out of place, colour wise. I was absolutely thrilled with the finish – a very natural, not matte, not dewy, real-skin look and uniform without being mask-like. Bobbi Brown has always been at the forefront of providing for multiple tones and that is very obvious whenever you pass a counter or step into a store.

The thing about Skin Foundation Stick is that it gives moisture where needed (thank you olive oil and shea butter) and oil control where needed (thank you oil controlling minerals!) – which is why my skin felt hydrated and balanced all day. You still need a brush or sponge to blend (or fingertips if you’re proficient), but by applying from the centre of the face out (in stripes if you like – I do), you ensure an even coverage when blending. One of the most notable things about the formula is that it doesn’t sit in pores – at all – and the other thing is that it feels lightly dewy, without looking ‘wet’.  My misconceptions about stick foundations (that they’re drying, hard to blend and heavy) have been blown out of the water with this product. I can’t believe I’m saying it, but I’m a convert!

Unless you’re sure of your shade, I’d always advise getting colour matched in store – it’s the best way to get it right first time.
