A new "meals on wheels" is now in Franklin County to help satisfy locals' cravings.

DoorDash, a mobile food delivery service, officially launched in the area Wednesday, connecting residents to more than 100 restaurants near Chambersburg, Waynesboro and Greencastle. The platform comes with a variety of choices, ranging from national chains, like Wendy's or Buffalo Wild Wings, to smaller eateries, like Big Oak Cafe and Cafe Del Sol

"We aim to make every city smaller by bringing you food - faster, fresher and from farther away, giving you the time back in your day to focus on what matters," said Brent Seals, head of launch for the company.

Hungry users looking to grab a bite to eat start by selecting what they want on the DoorDash app or website. They then input their location and use a credit card to pre-pay for the food and delivery fee, which runs anywhere from $1.99 to $3.99 depending on where the restaurant is. The order is prepared and given to a "dasher," a delivery person who brings it to the customers. Customers can tip, if they want.

Although there are several steps in the process, Seals noted the company strives to get all orders delivered in under an hour.

"At DoorDash, we’re not just connecting you with meals, we’re connecting you to endless possibilities - easier evenings, happier days, bigger savings accounts, wider nets and stronger communities," he said.

The service's move to the county comes after its success in neighboring areas, including Hagerstown in Maryland and Cumberland County. Seals said several Franklin County residents also asked the company to expand here.

Outside of the region, DoorDash operates throughout the country in all 50 states across more than 3,300 cities in North America. In addition, it has partnered with 90 percent of the top 100 U.S. restaurants that deliver, according to Seals, and employs more than 700,000 delivery people in America and Canada. However, officials did not disclose how many delivery drivers are located in the area.

"We want to make DoorDash available to customers, merchants and dashers all across the United States, in every postal code," he said.

The company is just one of several in the county, which offers food delivery services.

Uber Eats is available to those living in Chambersburg with choices like Sonic, McDonald's, Jersey Mike's Subs, Subway and Square One. Borough residents can also use Grubhub, but the app shows delivery from only one establishment - Twin Dragon Chinese Restaurant on Wayne Avenue.
