Indiana corn, soybean farmers join national farm groups backing USMCA

Indiana corn and soybean farmers are joining national ag commodity groups in their call for Congress to ratify the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement as soon as possible.

Joe Steinkamp, a farmer and ASA board member, says growers understand the importance of the relationships they’ve developed in Canada and Mexico. He says keeping the trade routes open helps farmers stay profitable.

Nearly $45 million of Hoosier ag goods went to Canada and nearly $12 million of ag goods went to Mexico in 2017.

Madison County farmer Joshua Miller says having a working trade partnership with neighboring countries shows that the U.S. is serious about developing fair trade around the world.

During Commodity Classic last week, the National Corn Growers Association, American Soybean Association, National Association of Wheat Growers, and National Sorghum Producers said they want Congress to pass the agreement as soon as possible.
