Commodity groups want USMCA ratified

Top ag commodity groups have joined together calling for Congress to support the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement.

ASA President Davie Stephens, a farmer from Kentucky, tells Brownfield the lack of trade certainty is affecting farmers’ management decisions this year. “We need to get this completed because it’s really effecting farmers for what they can do as they look at making crop decisions based on planting decisions or even marketing decisions.”

National Association of Wheat Growers treasurer Dave Milligan of Michigan tells Brownfield NAFTA has been very beneficial to wheat exports and they’d like to see the new agreement in place soon. “We’ve seen great increases in the amount of wheat going to Mexico.  It’s is one of our best customers, but now with the uncertainty they’ve slowed right down.”

During Commodity Classic, the National Corn Growers Association, American Soybean Association, National Association of Wheat Growers and National Sorghum Producers said they want Congress to pass the agreement as soon as possible.
