Lee Bouvier Radziwill - The original Pippa

Vale Lee.

This was a post published in 2013 but am reposting now.
------------------------------------------------------------------

The New York Times is running a fantastic  piece on Lee Radziwill.

There are several notable contributors to this article:
Nicky Haslam, Sofia Coppola, Peter Beard, etc.

It reads more like a proper in depth Vanity Fair article.
It's meaty and will go great with your Saturday brunch.

It also features a video interview with Sofia Coppola speaking to her about topics as diverse as her relationship with Peter Beard to her childhood - Onassis was off limits though.

You can click here for the link.

Fabulous cover of the T Magazine.
I didn't know I was such a fan until this picture.

Cute as a button - both of them.

Cecil Beaton anything is ok with me.

 A modern Matisse-y / Cecil Beaton / Vogue composition.
As you do.

Her living room in her Paris apartment.
Well edited, polished and inviting:
kind of like her.
( after reading the interview )

The other side of the same Parisian living room.

Refreshingly and surprisingly simple bedroom -
let's not analyze this too much.

Another domestic still I shall not analyze especially as
I am going to post pictures of my side table soon.

Her creative side, her watercolors, on display seamless with her decor.

But what we all have in the back of our mind when we see her.

Rivalry , Revelry.
Potato, po-tah-toe.

Both enjoyed social outings together and each others company.

Both were able to simply be themselves
without any social pretense.

Lee with her ex husband who was aristocracy
and still on friendly terms.

Pippa also with her ex boyfriend of aristocratic stock enjoying a platonic relationship.

Lee with one of the most sought after bachelors of the time - regardless of orientation.

Pippa on good terms with one of the most eligible bachelors in the world.

Both girls seem to have a carefree side.

Sometimes they hung out with the bad boys.

Lee with Truman Capote and Normal Mailer,
literary bad boys.

Pippa with Eurotrash bad boys.

Compulsory attendance on first row of fashion shows.

Both tried their hand at publishing.

Recipe for ice anyone?

I wonder if Lee and Pippa have spoken to each other about  starting a support group for younger sisters of quietly alpha personality, eldest child syndrome, simultaneously over / underachieving women married to socially prominent men?

To be a fly on the wall ...

  1. Read that and loved it. I was surprised at how disparaging the comments were, it doesn't bother me at all that some have more gilded lives but it certainly rattles cages.

  2. You've made me laugh at this comparison.

I'll never forget Tatler doing a section called "The Garden of tatler" (or something) where they depicted all the people in their garden as plants. The Middletons were named "The Wisteria Sisters -highly fragrant, but ferocious climbers".

Loved that article on Lee, she really had a pretty awful life... she was very openly bitter about her mother, all these years later. xx

  5. I loved this! Such clever but true comparisons - the 'recipe for ice' made me giggle!

For me I respect women who have got to do what they got to do to survive! She certainly seemed like she 'survived'!

  8. Hi B&P,it also doesn't bother me either!

Hi Heidi - yes the wisteria sisters are just so apt...

Colleen, perhaps that is why she is so relate-able - although privileged she still had to survive in her own way.

Linda - too cute - and to finish it off - Hurray.

Kelly - I think you will enjoy the movie - all his ingredients are Maldon-esque ;)

  12. Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just
your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and all.

However imagine if you added some great pictures or video
clips to give your posts more, "pop"! Your content
is excellent but with pics and video clips, this website
could undeniably be one of the very best in its field. Great blog!
