Soil Biology discussed at Nebraska conference

Soil biology. It’s not a new topic by any means, but it’s receiving much more attention these days. UNL Extension educator Keith Glewen says it was the main focus of the recent Nebraska Cover Crop and Soil Health Conference. “It’s a science that we’re learning more about as time goes on because of the technologies we have to discover and document and validate what’s underneath our feet, so to speak,” Glewen says. “There’s been societies and cultures that have come and gone because of their actions with the soil, or on the soil,” he says, “and we need to take note of what we’re doing in the farming community—in the agriculture community—as it relates to managing our soil.” Glewen says nearly 250 people attended the conference near at the UNL Research and Extension Center near Mead.
