Camp report: Rainy day limits Brewers' workout to mound sessions, batting practice indoors

On the field: Heavy rain prevented the Brewers from going out on the fields to workout, limiting them to having pitchers throw bullpen sessions on covered mounds and hitters take swings in the indoor batting cages. Manager Craig Counsell said it allowed time for meetings for “knocking out some other topics.” The Brewers have three new coaches – pitching coach Chris Hook, hitting coach Andy Haines and bullpen coach Steve Karsay – and players are still getting to know them.

“Getting new coaches in front of players as much as we can, and letting them hear their ideas is important,” Counsell said. “We want our new coaches to have different ideas. It’s just points of emphasis. Some are strategic. It’s just speeding up the comfort process. First impressions are very important."

Cactus Juice: Counsell offered a comment during the morning media session about planning your roster that would have made the late, great Yogi Berra proud: “We know the unforeseen is going to happen. It’s unforeseen, but we know it’s going to happen. It’s baseball.”
