Minnesota farmer says he has to be optimistic about trade

A southwest Minnesota farmer says he’s got to be optimistic about the U.S. and China agreeing to a trade deal soon.

Brandon Fast grows corn and soybeans near Mountain Lake.

“I’m very optimist, but that’s just what a farmer is. We’re the eternal optimists.”

President Trump has hinted at a possible extension of the March 1st deadline to reach a deal.

“The way it seems is when it comes down to the last minute, that’s when the best negotiations take place. So I guess I’m optimist and that’s just what we have to end up being.”

Various media outlets reported Thursday that U.S. and Chinese negotiators are drafting multiple Memorandums of Understanding which include China proposing to buy an additional $30 billion dollars of U.S. ag products.
