Mark Consuelos opens up about breakup with wife Kelly Ripa: 'We got married the next day'

It wasn't always smooth sailing for Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa, who have been married now for almost 23 years.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen Wednesday, Consuelos, 47, confirmed he and Ripa, 48, broke up right before they eloped in 1996. 

"I mean, yes," he said, smiling as the audience laughed.

The actor then went into details on how the pre-marriage break-up worked itself out.

"And then we both had to meet and do an appearance on 'Live With Regis and Kathie Lee' ... and when we were together (Ripa) wouldn’t talk to me and that made me go crazy,” he said. "So I followed her in Central Park – I stalked her, and then we went back to my place, and then we got married the next day.” 

Cohen joked in response, "What happened between you going to your place to you getting married, I think we know."

Break-up aside, Consuelos told Fox News Thursday that he is "crazy" about his wife, explaining how his marriage to Ripa has lasted this long.

“I’m crazy about my wife,” he said. “We both come from families, our parents are still together — family is super important to us. We have three great kids, and that also bonds you, having that experience together.”
