EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A police chase during rush hour where a driver was going the wrong way on U.S. 41 ended around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The fleeing driver stopped around 5:30 p.m. near North Governor and Delaware streets before being apprehended by police. The stolen car was smoking toward the end of the short police chase.

The vehicle was stolen from Shoe Carnival earlier Wednesday and the suspect could have been armed. A juvenile was in the car while it was parked at Shoe Carnival when the suspect came up to him threatening him with a gun, police said.

During the pursuit, which involved several agencies, the suspect hit two Evansville police vehicles — one at U.S. 41 and Columbia and a second when he got out of the car while it was still running at the end of the pursuit.
