Building strong bones focus of class

The importance of keeping bones strong as a person ages is the focus of the Strong Bones exercise class led by George Mader.

In 2011, Jim and Marji Breslow came to High Mesa Healing Center and asked if First Christian Church would host the Strong Bones classes.

Church officials enthusiastically opened doors for the classes promoting health and wellness, said Barbara Mader, healing center founder.

When summer was over, Jim and Marji went home to Georgetown, Texas leaving the church in charge of holding the focus and keeping the classes going.

That was more than eight years and 1,300 classes ago.

George Mader, standing, recently received a certificate of recognition and appreciation for leading the Strong Bones exercise class three times a week for more than two years. His commitment and dedication has been recognized by First Christian Church, the Ruidoso community and the class.

"This has made a positive impact on the health and well being in our community at large," Mader said.

"We often get positive feedback from the participants, their families and their health care providers. This feedback inspires us to keep these classes going."
