Three witnesses said they heard voices coming from a downtown Shreveport drain. After a nearly two hour search, members of the city's fire, police and water and sewerage departments found nothing.

Shortly before 11 a.m., the trio believed they heard someone splashing around in a freshwater drain near Marshall Street. The witnesses called out 'hello' and heard a 'hello' back in response, said Shreveport Fire Department Battalion Chief Bob DeBusk.

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to the call. The firefighters weren't able to hear a person but the city's police department and water and sewerage department arrived to provide additional resources.

The group opened and checked inside five manholes and drains along Crockett and Marshall streets using axes, crowbars and remote cameras. They did not find a person.

Drains in the area were short and narrow meaning someone would have crawled around to move, DeBusk said.

"Upwards of 100 feet, there was negative contact. No sign of anyone being in the drain," he said. "We called down (too). I think we were getting an echo."
