Montgomery Ballet is presenting "Graduation Ball" and "The Masks We Wear" at Greenville High School on Sunday, Feb. 24.

The Montgomery Ballet is in the middle of a road trip, with a performance ahead at Greenville High School.

It’s actually their second stop on this journey.

On Sunday, they presented “Graduation Ball” at Pike Road Middle School, set to music by Johann Strauss.

“It’s about the cadets graduating, and an all female school graduating, and having graduation ball together,” said Danny Mitsios, artistic director at Montgomery Ballet. “It’s kind of a comedy of the boys seeing the girls for the first time, the girls seeing the boys for the first time, since they’re in completely separate environments their whole education.”

That show included a performance by the Pike Road choir.

On Sunday, Feb. 24, they’ll perform at Greenville High School at 2 p.m. Along with “Graduation Ball,” they’ll present a contemporary piece “The Masks We Wear.”

“Since we’re approaching Mardi Gras, it has masks,” Mitsios said. “The idea is that we have masks that we wear every day, but then behind closed doors we see the real situation of the person.”

There are 12 dancers performing, all of whom are from Montgomery Ballet’s professional company. “There is no youth company. There are no students involved,” Mitsios said. “You’re getting a professional show.”

Greenville High School is at 100 Tiger Drive, Greenville. Tickets are $12, and are available at montgomeryballet.org.

Montgomery Ballet will return home March 1 and 2 for three special shows, and a Mardi Gras party, at their own black box studio, 2101 Eastern Blvd.
