'SNL' host Don Cheadle makes fashion statement, dons Trump Soviet Union jersey

Don Cheadle, who took on hosting duties for this weekend's "Saturday Night Live," made a clear fashion statement about President Trump on the NBC sketch comedy show.

The "Black Monday" actor closed the night wearing a red-and-white Soviet Union jersey emblazoned "Trump" and the number "45" on the back.  

"Big thanks to (musical guest) Gary Clark Jr., Mr. Alec Baldwin. Wow, what a week, what a week," said first-time host, who also played Spike Lee in an Oscar nominee edition of the game show "Family Feud," presided over by Kenan Thompson as Steve Harvey. "You guys have been amazing, thank you."

Twitter took notice of the star's duds. 

"Don Cheadle’s hockey jersey at the end of #SNL ..." @dmoody46 commented with several wide-eyed emojis.

Another user documented their thought process:

"Why is Don Cheadle wearing a CCCP jerse- (he turns around) OHHHH I GET IT" @zmcadler tweeted.

Some on the Twitterverse were tickled. 

"OMG HE’S WEARING A TRUMP SOVIET UNION HOCKEY JERSEY I- (die)" @dukebaby401 shared, adding a giggling Shirley Temple GIF.

Another called the wardrobe choice "Legendary!"

"@DonCheadle wore a Soviet Union CCCP hockey jersey at the end of the #SNL tonight with #Trump on the back of it with number 45 for his presidency!" @dj_themes wrote. "Well done Donny!" 

Earlier in the evening, Cheadle also donned a shirt that read "PROTECT TRANS KIDS" while introducing Clark, a move that was celebrated.

"Thank you Don Cheadle for using your platform to help save lives," @allanbrocka expressed.

"Your shirt fills my heart," @AmyMuller_ posted.
