Oxnard police make firearm-related arrest of man

Oxnard police said they arrested a man caught in possession of a loaded handgun that he wasn’t supposed to have.

The arrest took place at 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the area of Yale Street and Hamilton Avenue.

Police were contacted about suspicious people loitering in the area. Officers said they arrived and made contact with one of the people, identified as Joseph Caliboso, 19, of Oxnard.

Police learned he was on probation and performed a search of his vehicle, as allowed under the terms of the probation. They found a loaded firearm with a large-capacity magazine that was not registered to Caliboso, according to authorities.

Caliboso was arrested on suspicion of multiple firearm violations, including being in possession of a loaded firearm with a high-capacity magazine, according to authorities. He was later booked into county jail.
