Oxnard man arrested after Ventura rape report

Less than 12 hours after a reported rape in Ventura, police arrested an Oxnard man in connection with the crime.

At 1:20 a.m. Saturday, Ventura police received a 911 call from a woman reporting that she had just been sexually assaulted inside her residence in the 500 block of Howard Street.

The perpetrator was a 33-year-old Oxnard man who was known to the victim, police said. He entered through an unlocked door and fled after the assault, also making threats toward the victim, police said.

Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate him.

Police said that around noon Saturday, they learned he was going to Ventura Harbor to meet with the victim.

Detectives saw his vehicle in the 1500 block of Spinnaker Drive and conducted a traffic stop. He was arrested on suspicion of forcible rape, burglary and dissuading a victim, police said.
