EVANSVILLE, Ind. — One person has been banned from the University of Southern Indiana campus and an investigation is underway after reports were made of a series of alleged sexual assaults on campus.

USI Public Safety, which was made aware of the reports this week released a statement Friday evening in compliance with the Clery Act, a 1998 federal statute which requires public schools and universities to disclose possible threats to the safety of students and faculty.

The reported assaults occurred in on-campus housing, and the alleged perpetrator was known to the students who reported the incidents to campus security.

The USI student newspaper, The Shield, posted the USI Public Safety statement on Facebook. A portion of that statement can be read below.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding said that his office was not involved in the investigation, since the persons who reported the alleged incidents reported it only through federal Title IX statutes and have not filed reports with local authorities.
