Robber gets away with cellphone in Port Hueneme

A man was robbed of his cellphone Thursday night in Port Hueneme, police said.

Officers contacted the victim about the robbery about 10:40 p.m. at his home in the 100 block of North Fifth Street, Port Hueneme police said.

The victim told officers the robbery occurred about 9 p.m. in the 800 block of East Port Hueneme Road west of J Street. A man with a gun confronted and threatened the victim before taking his cellphone, police said. 

The victim had first seen the robber at a bus stop on the east side of J Street in the Oxnard city limits. The man asked the victim if he wanted to buy drugs, and the victim walked away and was confronted by the man later, police said. 

The robber was described as about 18 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black pants and was last seen running north of J Street, police said.
