A Saukville police officer has been cited for running a red light before crashing his squad car into another vehicle, the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Officer Nicholas Goetz, 26, was cited by the sheriff's office for failure to obey a traffic control signal before the crash shortly after 6 p.m. Feb. 2 at state Highway 33 (Green Bay Avenue) and county Highway W (Riverside Drive), according to a news release.

The citation includes a forfeiture of $175.30 and three demerit points on his driving record, according to the release.

Goetz, who has been on the job about one month, and another officer on the job since 2014 were responding to a domestic disturbance and traveling at about 40 to 45 mph with the squad's lights activated but not its siren, according to the release.

Goetz, who was westbound on Highway 33, failed to slow down and clear the intersection before striking the vehicle, which was northbound on Highway W, the sheriff's office said.

Goetz, another officer in the squad and the lone occupant of the other vehicle, a 53-year-old Random Lake man, were treated at a hospital and released later that night, the sheriff's office said.
