While the Alamogordo High School Tiger mascot was busy high-fiving students on the way into a special assembly Feb. 14, a special surprise was in store for two Desert Star Elementary students.

Corben Scott and Dominic Scott each received a “Kids Serve, Too” award. The award  is given to students with military parents.

But the largest surprise was still forthcoming.

While Corben and Dominic posed for photos with the mascot, a quick reveal showed the Scott boys’ father, Technical Sgt. Ethan Scott, in the mascot suit.

The U.S. Air Force technical sergeant recently returned from a six-month deployment to Kuwait.

“It felt like a really long six months then, at the same time, it all happened so quickly and then the surprise,” Ethan Scott said.

Corben and Dominic were speechless, but embraced their father, who was still wearing the rest of the tiger costume, after the big reveal.

“It’s overwhelming, but it’s good to have him back,” said Melody Scott, the boys' mother.

Melody, Ethan, Corben and Dominic Scott welcome Ethan home form a six-month tour of Kuwait at an assembly at Desert Star Elementary Thursday, Feb. 14.
