More flexible crop insurance options for 2019

A new crop insurance option will simplify covering acreage in two counties.

“It allows the producer that uses the enterprise unit discount system, and he’s using it in one county, maybe he has some adjoining acreage in another county but that acreage doesn’t qualify on its own for an enterprise unit—he now has the option of bringing those acres into his other county’s enterprise unit and everything will fit under one enterprise unit.”   

Martin Barbre with USDA’s Risk Management Agency says farmers have been asking for the Multi-County Enterprise Unit for some time.

Sign up deadlines for crop insurance are February 28^th or March 15, depending on location.
