Panera Bread opening on MSU's campus this fall
RJ WolcottEAST LANSING - Michigan State University is getting a Panera Bread this fall.
Approximately 2,000 square feet of space inside the Minskoff Pavilion of the Broad College of Business is being set aside for the restaurant. Construction of the 100,000 square foot pavilion is slated to wrap up in July.
MSU's Board of Trustees approved a minimum 10-year lease with Panera LLC on Friday. MSU is getting $50,000 per year from Panera for the first six years and $55,000 per year after that.
MSU already has food and drink options operated on campus by outside companies: A Biggby in the MSU Union as well as a Panda Express, Subway and Woody's Oasis inside the International Center.
The Panera space will be part of an expansion of MSU's College of Business funded largely by a $30 million donation from MSU alumnus and New York developer Edward Minskoff, the largest from a single donor in the university's history.
