CHARLOTTE - Rowdy, a horse that went missing from his pen three weeks ago, was found dead Tuesday.

He got out of his pen on owner Cindy Dockey's 10-acre property in Charlotte on Jan. 22 with eight of her other horses.

Two of the horses were found on her property, she said, and six of the other seven were found about 8 miles away in Brookfield Township later that same night.

Rowdy, who was 27 years old, wasn't with them.

Dockey owned Rowdy for 23 years. She said her posts on Facebook seeking help in locating him brought support and help.

She heard from people in other states and throughout Michigan, Dockey said, and area residents helped her search the area on foot and by airplane. Extreme cold and snowfall didn't discourage the effort, Dockey said.

Rowdy, a horse that went missing from his pen three weeks ago, was found dead Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019.

"People were still going out, no matter how bad it was," she said. "I was totally humbled by the amount of people who were looking for Rowdy. People were calling me just to say they were praying for him."

Rowdy's body was found Tuesday morning, Dockey said, within an eight-mile area she and volunteers had been searching. She said she couldn't be more specific.

In the end, Dockey said, the search for Rowdy brought "so many people together."

"I want people to know how many hearts he touched," she said. "It was amazing."
