YF&R prepares farmer for policy discussion

Missouri Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R) Chair Victoria Schwader says she and her husband are in the YF&R to meet other farmers their age and to be better informed.

“Another great part for me has been a peek into the legislative side of Farm Bureau,” Schwader told Brownfield Ag News at the recent YF&R Annual Conference. “I was always intimidated by law and policy and I think they make it very tangible.”

As a young farmer, Schwader says she and her husband hope for a future in agriculture. Becoming familiar with policy, she said, is a way to achieve that goal.

“There are a lot of loud voices trying to push against us,” said Schwader, “so we need to be diligent in trying to make sure that those things swing in our favor.”

Schwader and her husband farm at St. Joseph, where she’s a Select Sires semen salesperson.
