Green New Deal no big deal to ethanol industry

The leader of the Renewable Fuels Association says the Green New Deal is No Big Deal for ethanol.

CEO Geoff Cooper says RFA is still trying to figure out what the Green New Deal really is.

“And I don’t think we’re terribly threatened or concerned about the omission of ethanol because there’s just really no specificity in it at all.”

One aspect of the deal that Cooper says might alarm some is the proposal to phase out fossil fuels entirely.

“Well, whether that’s reasonable or not I don’t know. The plan that we’ve seen doesn’t really address anything in specifics, so it’s hard for us to really have an opinion on that Green New Deal as it is today.”

CNBC is reporting Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell plans to force a vote on the Green New Deal, introduced last week by Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey and New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Brownfield spoke to Cooper during the National Ethanol Conference in Orlando.
