A man is dead after being struck by a train in Waukesha

A 47-year-old man was struck and killed by a train Wednesday at South East Avenue and Carroll Street in Waukesha. 

The incident took place at about 7:55 p.m., according to the Waukesha Police Department. 

The man was not a railroad employee, police said. 

The death is being investigated by the Waukesha Police Department, the Waukesha Medical Examiners Office and the Canadian National Railroad.

Several intersections were closed for hours in the wake of the incident: at West Avenue, Grand Avenue, Maple Street, Barstow Street, East Avenue, College Avenue, Broadway and Arcadian Avenue.
