Russell Westbrook sets NBA record with 10th consecutive triple-double

Russell Westbrook continues to make the triple-double look easy.

Westbrook notched his 10th triple-double in a row Monday night, breaking a tie with Wilt Chamberlain and setting an NBA record for consecutive triple-doubles. The Oklahoma City Thunder star dished his 10th assist to Paul George for a 3-pointer with just under four minutes left against the Portland Trail Blazers to secure the record.

Moments later, George found Westbrook for a 3 and a triple-double of his own. Westbrook had 21 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. George finished with 47 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. It all added up to a 120-11 win for the Thunder.

"It's a blessing to be able to go out and compete," Westbrook said in an on-court interview. "I've got some unbelievable teammates that make my job easy. P and those guys make my job very easy, and it's my job to set the table for them.

"It was unbelievable moment for the fans, the city, everybody else. I'm just happy to be a part of it and happy that we got the win."

It's the ninth time in NBA history that teammates have notched triple-doubles in the same game. LeBron James and Lonzo Ball of the Los Angeles Lakers did it in a Dec. 15 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

Westbrook and George are the first of those teammates to each log a 20-point triple-double in the same game.

"I'm just excited for Russ," said George. "He's the best competitor I've seen, the best competitor I've played with. He's a one of a kind player. What a player, what a teammate."

Westbrook put his name in the record books two years ago when he became just the second player in league history to average a triple-double over an entire season. He followed up that MVP campaign with another triple-double season in 2017-18 and remains on pace this year to do it for a third consecutive season. Westbrook is averaging 21.2 points, 11.2 assists and 11.1 rebounds a game.

Named an All-Star this season for the eighth time, Westbrook now has 23 triple-doubles on the year and 127 for his career, third-most all-time behind Oscar Robertson (181) and Magic Johnson (138).
