A few more adds to the Michigan football coaching staff, and this one is a name that resonates in the state.

ESPN's Field Yates reported on Monday that U-M is hiring Pat Perles, the son of former Michigan State coach and Board of Trustee member George Perles, as as assistant offensive line coach.

Then later Monday, Bruce Feldman, reporter for the Athletic and Fox Sports, reported that Ferris State offensive coordinator Steve Casula and Bethune Cookman special teams coordinator/recruiting coordinator Aashon Larkins are expected to join U-M's staff as analysts.

Feldman mentioned that Casula worked with Michigan's new offensive coordinator, Josh Gattis, at Western Michigan.

Michigan did not confirm any of the hirings as of Monday afternoon.

Pat Perles, 55, has built a long resume of coaching since playing linebacker at and graduating from MSU in 1987. He was a defensive assistant with the Los Angeles Rams in 1992, and was on the Kansas City Chiefs staff helping the linebackers and offensive line from 2009-2011. His last known job was as a scout for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He has spent significant time coaching in the college, including at his alma mater from 2000-02, working with the tight ends. He began his coaching career as a defensive line coach at Toledo and worked on offensive at North Dakota State, eventually as coordinator from 2005-08. He also was the offensive line coach at Syracuse in 2013.

Perles also coached a few seasons in the CFL.

Casula has been the offensive coordinator for the last two seasons for the Bulldogs, which reached the Division II national championship game in 2018, thanks in large part to quarterback Jayru Campbell, the Harlon Hill Trophy winner. Before working at Ferris, Casula, was the offensive coordinator and interim coach at Davenport and coached tight ends at Colgate after doing the same at WMU, where Gattis coached wide receivers.

Larkins has been at Bethune Cookman, a FCS team based in Daytona Beach, Fla., for five seasons and has been recruiting coordinator there since the end of the 2016 season. He has made previous stops at Jacksonville State and The Citadel.

Most recently, Perles made headlines last year by defending against the claim that his father covered up an alleged rape by disgraced former MSU employee Larry Nassar in 1992 when George Perles was athletic director.

The elder Perles, 84, retired from MSU's Board late last year, citing health reasons.

U-M has seen significant turnover on its coaching staff, losing defensive line coach Greg Mattison, linebackers coach Al Washington and, most recently, passing game coordinator Pep Hamilton. The Wolverines pulled Gattis from Alabama to be the new offensive coordinator, Shaun Nua was brought in as defensive line coach, Anthony Campanile as a defensive assistant and Ben McDaniels was promoted to quarterbacks coach.
