Legendary Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier returned to Florida to take charge of the Alliance of American Football's Orlando Apollos, and Spurrier's club got off to a flying start in their opening game on Saturday night.

With a chance to break their game open against the Atlanta Legends just before halftime, the Apollos broke out the Philly Special - the play made famous by the Philadelphia Eagles in their Super Bowl LII victory over the New England Patriots. And the Apollos executed it to perfection.

Spurrier also had a bit of fun calling plays, sending a message to a receiver to "catch it this time."

Spurrier, who won the Heisman Trophy as a player at the University of Florida before leading his alma mater (as well as Duke and South Carolina) to great success as a coach – posting a 228-89-2 record and winning the 1996 national title over 26 seasons – is one of several high-profile names connected to the newly-launched AAF

Orlando rolled to a 40-6 victory in the first game back in the professional ranks for Spurrier. The 73-year-old was head coach of the NFL's Washington Redskins from 2002-03 and was leader of the USFL's Tampa Bay Bandits from 1983-85.
