Steve Spurrier's AAF team scored touchdown with the Philly Special

Legendary Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier returned to Florida to take charge of the Alliance of American Football's Orlando Apollos, and Spurrier's club got off to a flying start in their opening game on Saturday night.

With a chance to break their game open against the Atlanta Legends just before halftime, the Apollos broke out the Philly Special - the play made famous by the Philadelphia Eagles in their Super Bowl LII victory over the New England Patriots. And the Apollos executed it to perfection.

Spurrier also had a bit of fun calling plays, sending a message to a receiver to "catch it this time."

Spurrier, who won the Heisman Trophy as a player at the University of Florida before leading his alma mater (as well as Duke and South Carolina) to great success as a coach – posting a 228-89-2 record and winning the 1996 national title over 26 seasons – is one of several high-profile names connected to the newly-launched AAF. 

Orlando rolled to a 40-6 victory in the first game back in the professional ranks for Spurrier. The 73-year-old was head coach of the NFL's Washington Redskins from 2002-03 and was leader of the USFL's Tampa Bay Bandits from 1983-85.
