The Green New Deal and agriculture
A group of Democrats in Congress has released an outline of the Green New Deal, a plan they say will combat climate change by transforming the economy, including agriculture, and expanding renewable energy.
The resolution calls for changes to animal agriculture. But, Collin Woodall with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says U.S. beef producers are committed to sustainability. And they produce the same amount of beef with 33 percent fewer cattle, compared to 1977, and produce only two-percent of all carbon emissions in the U.S.
The resolution urges farmers and ranchers to eliminate pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the ag sector as much as possible while still building a sustainable food supply.
The director of Food First supports the plan saying, “the industrial overproduction of food—the root cause of agricultural pollution, food waste and greenhouse gas emissions,” needs to be stopped.
The resolution was drafted by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes of New York and Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts
A lot of the do gooders in Congress should go hungry for a year or so and then see what there attudes are when it comes to carbon emissions are concerned. How about paying the Ag I dusty for.carbon reductions if they are serious about these reductions.
