Opinion: It's time for the NFL to do the right thing and move Super Bowl to Saturday night

Here we are living in the year 2019, a time when just about everything is designed to make our lives feel more convenient and enjoyable.

With a touch of a few buttons on our phone we can get food delivered from an almost limitless number of restaurants, all with the added bonus of not having to talk with another human to get it done.

Things like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. have made it so we never have to leave the house to rent a movie, or even a TV show that we might have missed.

And yet here we are, in 2019, still having the Super Bowl on a Sunday night.

Which is neither that convenient nor as enjoyable as it could be.

The fix for this problem is really darn simple —  move the game to Saturday.

Crazy, right?

I know this isn't a groundbreaking idea, but come on, it's beyond time for the change to happen.

I get that professional football has long been known for being played on Sunday, so having the championship game on that day just seems like the right thing to do. Tradition is important!

But that's a lazy train of thought. And even more, it's an outdated train of thought.

These days we have Thursday Night Football, Monday Night Football, Saturday Night Football (late in the season), as well as many playoff games on Saturdays. People watch all of those broadcasts in record-breaking fashion.

Having the Super Bowl on a Sunday night makes no sense anymore. Moving it to Saturday allows everyone to have more fun while watching the game, not having to worry about how they might feel when they sit down at their desk at work on that following Monday.

Imagine having that Sunday to recover? How glorious would that be?

I got to thinking about this on Saturday afternoon when a friend who's a dentist in the Army (and a Pats fan) stationed in Italy texted saying a European buddy of his turned down a Super Bowl party invite from him because the game starts past midnight over there. Even his buddy was like, why don't they have it Saturday?

There has to be tons of other NFL fans living all over the world who have to stay up into the wee hours of Monday morning to watch the game, which is just dumb and avoidable.

Saturday just works for everyone. There's nothing else on TV to compete against it. With two weeks between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl it would be easy to make the adjustment without taking any important prep time away from the teams. And it would allow fans to have a little more fun while watching the game.

Win. Win. Win.

It's time, NFL. Make the right move.

Super Bowl Saturday sounds pretty super to me.
