With Todd Gurley, Sony Michel in Super Bowl, who is all-time greatest Georgia running back?

The lead running backs for both Super Bowl teams were teammates at the University of Georgia, Todd Gurley of the Rams and Sony Michel of the Patriots.

Cleveland rookie Nick Chubb also played at Georgia.

They are just the latest in a long line of Bulldogs backs to make the pros, a list that includes some legendary names.

We asked Tony Barnhart of the SEC Network and TMG College Sports to rank the top 15 Georgia running backs of all time. Tony is a Georgia grad, and his Twitter handle is @Mr.CFB. No one knows the SEC better.

Here's how he sees the Dawgs:

1. Herschel Walker (1980-82): Easy choice as the G.O.A.T. at Georgia. Ran for 5,259 yards (SEC record) in only three seasons. The 1982 Heisman Trophy winner, Walker led Georgia to three SEC championships and one national championship (1980).

2. Charley Trippi (1942, 1945-46): Played in same backfield with Heisman Trophy winner Frank Sinkwich in 1942. Career interrupted for two years by World War II.  He was runner-up for Heisman Trophy in 1946 to Army’s Glen Davis. Trippi is in the college and pro football Halls of Fame.

3. Nick Chubb (2014-17): Came back from a horrific knee injury to become Georgia’s No. 2 all-time rusher. Still holds the No. 4 (1,547 yards) and No. 8 (1,345 yards) best seasons in school history.

4. Frank Sinkwich (1940-42): The 1942 Heisman Trophy winner who led Georgia to a Rose Bowl and a national championship in 1942.  He  averaged 5.28 yards per carry in his career.

5. Todd Gurley (2012-2014): Still holds the Georgia career record for yards per rush (6.44). He trails only Walker and Chubb for most rushing TD in a career (36).

6. Garrison Hearst (1990-92): Only Walker has rushed for more yards in a season at Georgia than Hearst’s 1,547 in 1992. His 1,910 all-purpose yards in 1992 is second best in SEC history.

7. Sony Michel (2014-2017): No. 3 all-time rusher at Georgia behind Walker andChubb with 3,638 yards. He rushed for 1,227 yards in 2017 despite sharing carries with Chubb.

8. Terrell Davis (1992-94): He came to Georgia in 1992 when Long Beach State dropped its football program. After a year of backing up Garrison Hearst, Davis ran for 1,607 yards in three seasons. He was drafted by Denver (sixth round), where he put together four straight 1,000-yard seasons. He was the MVP of Super Bowl XXXII.

9. Lars Tate (1984-87): One of only six backs in Georgia history to run for over 3,000 yards in a career.

10. Knowshon Moreno (2007-08): Played only two seasons (he redshirted in 2006) but is still the No. 7 rusher in Georgia history with 1,334 yards in 2007 and 1,400 yards in 2008.

11. Rodney Hampton (1987-89): The No. 8 rushing leader in Georgia history with 2,668 yards. Averaged 7.06 yards per rush in 1987, tied for fourth-best in school history

12. Tim Worley (1985-86, 1988): An All-American in 1988 when he led the SEC in rushing with 1,216 yards and scored 17 touchdowns. He sat out the entire 1987 season with a torn ACL.

13. Willie McClendon (1976-78): He led the SEC in rushing with 1,312 yards in 1978, when he was named the conference’s offensive player of the year.

14. Musa Smith (2000-02): In 2002, he rushed for 1,324 yards and eight touchdowns, leading Georgia to its first SEC championship in 20 years. He is 13th in all-time rushing at Georgia with 2,202 yards.

15. Kevin McLee (1975-77): The No. 10 rusher in Georgia history with 2,581 yards.  He was a first-team All-SEC pick in 1976 when he helped lead the Bulldogs to the SEC championship.
