Bovine TB found in North Dakota

A new strain of bovine tuberculosis has been linked to a beef herd in southeast North Dakota.

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture says the strain, Mycobacterium bovis, has not been found before in the U.S. and is similar to cases in Mexico.

Two animals were found positive with the disease at an out-of-state slaughter plant in December.  Five additional cows from the Sargent County farm were confirmed positive and additional tests are ongoing.

Ag Department officials say there are no other cattle herds that have direct contact with the farm.
