Biodiesel growth and the demand for low-carbon fuel

The CEO of the National Biodiesel Board says although there have been challenges, the biodiesel industry continues to grow by meeting the demand for lower-carbon fuel.   

Donnell Rehagen says the biodiesel industry reduces greenhouse gas emissions, improves the farm economy, and gives consumers more options at the pump.

“We feel great about the fact that what they’re looking for is exactly what we have,” he says. “I think our future is bright it’s just a matter of telling that story and making sure they know that with some of those carbon reduction goals they have the solution is here today.”

He says he anticipates the industry to continue growing in 2019 and beyond.

Success brings success so we’re seeing other states and other regions of the country and other markets that are looking at us in a different way than they did 10 years ago,” he says. “I’m excited about the opportunities to have those conversations about the benefits biodiesel brings to transportation fuels.”

The nearly 3-billion-gallon industry supports more than 60,000 jobs.
