State Senators set priorities for New Mexicans during 60-day legislative session

SANTA FE – State Sens. William “Bill” Burt, R-Alamogordo, and Ron Griggs, R-Alamogordo, took the Oath of Office and Oath of Ethical Conduct during the opening ceremonies of 2019 Legislative Session that convened Jan. 15 at noon. 

Burt and Griggs said their priorities this session include passing legislation to create more good paying jobs in the state, improving education, being watchful over the state taxpayer’s money and passing a balanced budget to operate state government in fiscal year 2020.

Both Burt and Griggs stressed that preserving the state's permanent funds for current and future students is critical.

Burt has been serving in the state Senate since 2011. He is a member of the powerful Senate Finance Committee. Griggs has been serving in the state Senate since 2012. He is on the Conservation and Judiciary Committees.

The 60-day session ends at noon on March 16, 2019.
