Peterson Farms Seed anticipates strong interest in Enlist soybeans

Seed companies anticipate strong interest in Enlist soybeans now that the technology has Chinese approval.

Peterson Farms Seed general manager Scott Sanders says there’s a lot of excitement for Enlist beans in their region.

“There’s going to be some of our customers who are definitely happy with the Liberty varieties or Xtend varieties they have. But Enlist certainly adds to that pool and gives another opportunity and another option for our farmers, should that be the best trait technology for their farm.”

Depending on demand, he tells Brownfield there could be a limited supply of Enlist soybeans in 2019.

“Just because certain companies may have chosen not to produce as many simply because it was really an unknown when and if China would approve. Certainly we still need the Philippine approval for full freedom to operate, but with China approving that’s a large chunk of what needs to happen.”

Sanders says their dealer network will be receiving more information about Enlist options soon.

Peterson Farms Seed is based in North Dakota and sells corn and soybeans to growers in the Dakotas and Minnesota.
