Paxton Lynch signs with Seattle Seahawks after year out of NFL

After spending a year out of the NFL, Paxton Lynch is getting another opportunity.

The Seattle Seahawks signed the former first-round quarterback to a reserve/future contract on Thursday.

Lynch, 24, was not signed by any team during the 2018 season after he was waived by the Denver Broncos after the end of the preseason. The No. 26 pick in the 2016 NFL draft out of Memphis, Lynch was unable to beat out Trevor Siemian for the starting position. He also was leapfrogged for the backup job by Chad Kelly, who was waived in October after being arrested and charged with criminal trespassing.

In five games and four starts over two seasons in Denver, Lynch completed 79 of 128 attempts for 792 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Seahawks have to decide on a plan for their No. 2 quarterback behind Russell Wilson, who has never missed a game in his seven-year career. Brett Hundley served in the role last season but is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
