Oxnard's assistant city attorney has been named deputy city manager, overseeing three departments of City Hall.

Shiri Klima, who has been the assistant city attorney for two years, was named deputy city manager on Tuesday effective immediately. City Manager Alex Nguyen made the announcement about a month after Assistant City Manager Jesus Nava retired.

Klima, 38, will head the finance, information technology and human resources departments. She will earn an annual salary of nearly $186,000.

"Ms. Klima has proven to be an effective and creative problem solver for Oxnard,” Nguyen said in a statement. “She will bring a high level energy to the city manager’s office.”

Last month, Nguyen appointed Ashley Golden to be the assistant city manager overseeing the departments of economic development, development services, housing, and cultural and community services. Golden had been serving as the assistant city manager on an interim basis.

As assistant city attorney, Klima led city negotiations in groundwater management and overhauled the city's procurement system. She also led efforts to seek FEMA grants for projects totaling more than $12 million.

Klima has a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, a master's degree from Arizona State University and a law degree from USC.
