My wife and I have used the Companion Pass to get 2-for-1 flights to 20+ destinations, including Denver, Las Vegas, Los Cabos, Seattle, and many others!  Southwest also flies to the Caribbean.  And soon they’ll be departing to Hawaii!  This deal is fantastic for couples and families.  Or if you just have a friend you love to travel with.

You don’t have to fly every weekend to make the most of the Companion Pass.  Even if you only have 1 or 2 trips planned for 2019, the savings you can enjoy with the Companion Pass can still make it worth applying for one of the limited-time offers.

Remember, you can utilize the Companion Pass whether you book a flight with points OR cash – your companion flies for just the cost of taxes and fees as long as Southwest is selling seats on that flight.

Let’s say you book a $300 round-trip Southwest flight within the US for yourself.  With the Companion Pass, you can just add your designated companion for the cost of taxes & fees, which on a domestic round-trip flight is usually just ~$11.  So you’re effectively getting 2 seats on a $300 flight for just $311, which equates to just $156 per person.  Of course, the savings can be even more depending on the cost of your flight.

Another reason I love this deal is because my wife and I have a lot of Chase Ultimate Rewards point earning credit cards, including the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card.  This means we can transfer points to my wife’s Southwest frequent flyer account.  Then, use those points to book a Southwest award flight and just add me her as companion.  So we don’t plan on paying cash for any Southwest flights in 2019!

You’ll also get:

•  1 Southwest point per $1 on every other purchase
•  7,500 Southwest points each year on your card anniversary
• $75 in annual statement credits after making eligible Southwest purchases
• 20% back on in-flight purchases like in-flight drinks, entertainment, and Wi-Fi
• 4 upgraded boardings per cardmember year

This card has a $149 annual fee, which is NOT waived the first year.  And this card has no foreign transaction fees.

Note:   The Southwest credit cards are subject to the Chase 5/24 rule.  If you’ve opened 5+ credit cards from any bank (with the exception of certain business cards) in the past 24 months, you won’t be approved.  Another important note is that it’s no longer possible to have more than one personal Southwest card at the same time.
