Kalin Lucas is back home.

The former Orchard St. Lake Mary's and Michigan State standout is signing a two-way deal with the Detroit Pistons, according to a person with firsthand knowledge of the situation. Lucas will take the place of Zach Lofton, who will be cut. The team later confirmed the move.

The Pistons also added point guard Isaiah Whitehead on a two-way deal Tuesday.

Lucas has played in one career NBA game — six minutes with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2014-15 season.

Each NBA team is permitted two-way deals to allow two players to go back-and-forth between the NBA and the Gatorade League.

Lucas, 29, was waived by the Sacramento Kings just before the start of this season. He played 21 games for the Stockton Kings of the G League, averaging 22 points, 6.3 assists and three turnovers this season in 21 games (10 starts). He shot 39.7 percent from 3-point range on 5.8 attempts per game (48-for-121). Lucas has played 133 career games in the G League over four seasons.

He played four seasons in 2007-11 at Michigan State under coach Tom Izzo, averaging 14.2 points and four assists per game in 141 career college games. The Spartans made consecutive Final Four appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2009 at Ford Field in Detroit. Lucas went undrafted.

The Athletic was first to report the deal.
