Hagerstown, Md., airport adds nonstop flights to Myrtle Beach

Whether you are planning a vacation in Myrtle Beach this summer or start feeling spontaneous as the dog days drag on, the only driving you'll need to do is a quick jaunt across the Mason-Dixon Line.

Allegiant Air will offer non-stop flights from Hagerstown (Md.) Regional Airport to the popular beach town in South Carolina starting June 6.

Fares on the new route start at $49 each way. The round-trip cost is about as much as it would take in gas to go there and back (depending on your vehicle, of course), for a trip that's about six hours shorter one way.

“We’re excited to grow again in a longtime Allegiant city—Hagerstown,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant vice president of planning and revenue. “We’re sure area travelers will appreciate the opportunity to get away to beautiful Myrtle Beach on these convenient, nonstop, ultra-low-cost flights to enjoy all that the Grand Strand has to offer.”

The first flight available on June 6 costs $49 for one way, with departure at 7:25 p.m. and arrival in Myrtle Beach at 8:46 p.m., according to Allegiant Air's booking page.

The route is seasonal and will operate twice a week.

The addition of this new route means Hagerstown Regional Airport now provides flights to five cities. In addition to Myrtle Beach, the airport, located just over the Maryland line on Showalter Road and about 20 minutes from Chambersburg, offers flights to Orlando/Sanford International and St. Pete Clearwater International airports in Florida via Allegiant Air, and to Baltimore Washington International and Pittsburgh International airports via Southern Airways Express.

“We could not be more excited for this new and exciting opportunity at Hagerstown Regional Airport,” said Peggy Siler, station manager. “This new route will offer thousands of travelers the opportunity to visit Myrtle Beach, with the convenience of traveling through their hometown airport, HGR.”

There are limitations on introductory fares, including purchase by Jan. 16 for travel by Aug. 13. For more details, optional services and baggage fees, visit Allegiantair.com.
