Children could access drug-dealing operation at Waynesboro home, police say

A Waynesboro man is being held on $300,000 bail on accusations children living in his home had easy access to several drugs, including marijuana and oxycodone. 

Curtis William Bowers, 46, is charged with two counts each of felony possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, misdemeanor endangering welfare of children, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and one count misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court documents. He was arraigned Friday and taken to the Franklin County Jail.

Franklin County Drug Task force, Waynesboro police and state police executed a search warrant at Bowers' West Fourth Street home on Sept. 20, according to court documents. Law enforcement could smell the odor of marijuana throughout the first floor. Police said they also found several adults and two children who lived at the property with Bowers.

During the search, authorities recovered several items from the first floor master bedroom, including: 

  • A prescription bottle with white oval pills
  • A prescription bottle with white round pills
  • A digital scale
  • Money from a wallet on a dresser
  • A heat/vacuum sealer
  • Loose marijuana on the top of a dresser
  • Smoking devices with marijuana residue on top of the dresser
  • A bag of marijuana in backpack
  • Nine bags of marijuana from a cooler 
  • A plastic container with marijuana 
  • Nine vials containing an unknown liquid 
  • Packaging paraphernalia 
  • Cell phones 

According to the report, due to the layout of the home the children could have easily accessed these items. In addition, money, including what police called "pre-recorded buy money," was found on Bowers.

The marijuana, pills and liquid were sent to a state police lab, where they tested positive for the presence of oxycodone, marijuana, alprazolam and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), documents state. 

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22 in Franklin County Central Court.
