Cooperative pushes for more FDA labeling comments on National Milk Day

A dairy cooperative is using Friday’s National Milk Day to make one last push for stronger FDA dairy label enforcement.  Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative’s Aaron Stauffacher says, “Please take the time to comment into FDA as everyone’s voice does make a difference in this debate, and we need folks to comment.”

Stauffacher tells Brownfield it’s important to convince the FDA to enforce existing dairy standards and make sure terms like milk, dairy, yogurt, and cheese are used for real dairy products.  “I’ve been working with our public relations team and our social media specialist on potential comments to get out to members and try to facilitate not only members commenting, but the rest of ag and the dairy community.”

Stauffacher says the dairy community needs to let the agency know how important these standards are and that they need to be enforced. “The other side, you know, the animal activists and the plant-based folks have been doing pretty well with this last comment period and we need, you know, every little bit helps on our side.”

The FDA comment period on plant-based imitation dairy product labeling ends January 28th.
