Consumer survey supports call for milk labeling enforcement

A new survey finds more than 60 percent of consumers believe FDA should enforce existing regulations to restrict the use of the word “milk” on items not made with dairy products.

National Milk Producers Federation President Jim Mulhern says the consumer survey showcases the need for FDA to follow its own regulations and is calling on the agency to end the mislabeling of fake milks.

The online survey of more than 1,000 consumers was commissioned by NMPF and builds on previous surveys that found more than 70 percent of consumers believe almond-based drinks have as much or more protein than milk and one-quarter of consumers believe almond drinks contain cow’s milk or weren’t sure.
