Frontier Airlines reveals 22 nonstop routes this week

Frontier Airlines announced even more new routes this week, unveiling new options in multiple cities. The collection of routes announced on Wednesday followed on the heels of two separate announcements earlier this week.

Cumulatively, Frontier says its moves this week include a total of 22 additional routes that will be added across its bases in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina; Las Vegas; Philadelphia; and Orlando, Florida. The additions – all seasonal – also add one new city to Frontier’s route map, bringing Boston back into the company’s network for the first time since 2012. “With the addition of these 22 new routes, Frontier has added its 106th city, Boston, and increased service in 19 other cities across our network,” Daniel Shurz, Frontier’s Senior Vice President–Commercial, says in a statement.

The announced routes will bolster Frontier’s presence in cities that have become important bases for it in recent years.

With eight added routes, Frontier will offer either seasonal or year-round service to 32 destinations from Raleigh/Durham. From Orlando, Frontier’s addition of six new routes will give it a total of 59 seasonal and year-round nonstop destinations. Frontier says it is the top carrier at each airport in terms of destinations served.

Elsewhere, Frontier is adding five routes from Las Vegas (now 35 total) and five from Philadelphia, where the carrier says its roster of 31 nonstop destinations makes it second only to American Airlines there.

It’s worth noting, however, that while Frontier flies to dozens of destinations from those airports, a number of other airlines carry more total passengers because of their more-frequent schedules.

Overall, Frontier says the routes announced this week are part of an effort to grow it footprint.

Aside from adding Boston, the carrier is “joining the dots” on its route map with more connections between other cities it already serves, Shurz tells USA TODAY’s Today in the Sky blog.

“We’re growing from our second-, third- and fourth-largest operations,” he adds, referencing Orlando, Las Vegas and Philadelphia.
