New Zealand brand, Ashley & Co, is one to take note of because if this candle is anything to go by, it’s scent heaven. It’s not just candles; the brand covers hand wash, hand cream, lip balm and soaps as well as shampoo and washing up liquid. Definitely a life-style brand, not just a candle brand, and one that’s packing a perfume punch.
I love the fact that they call their candles ‘waxed perfume’ and that the fragrances are creative and exciting. Mine is Tui & Khali which is a blend of lily, wild ginger, mimosa, sandalwood and ylang ylang and to my nose I pick up ylang ylang and lily more than any other (although to be fair, I have no idea what wild ginger smells like). I’m sitting working in my dining room while the candle burns in my kitchen and I’m getting the most beautiful, heady floral-tropical wafts. The fragrance is very generous – above average, I’d say.
When it comes to product names, I’m so in for Parakeets & Pearls, Once Upon A Time and Baubles & Polkadots – they immediately make me want to see – and smell – more. I’m waiting for a selection of soaps to arrive so I can get a proper idea of how they smell but I love what I see so far. There’s nothing about this brand that’s over-thought – it seems to flow very naturally with an instant fit in my home. Given that we’ve all got far too much make up and skin care now, perhaps our pounds should go more to our environment and creating scented moments that we can enjoy in a similar self-nurturing way. Anyway, the Ashley & Co Tui & Khali candle is £48.50 HERE. It’s top end of what I’d be prepared to pay for a fragranced candle but there is something special about this brand.
