A Pennsylvania man died early Thursday as a result of a fiery crash on Interstate 70 in Hagerstown, Md.

Police and emergency personnel responded to the crash at about 6:44 a.m., according to a release from Maryland State Police.

Samuel Reese of New Galilee, located northwest of Pittsburgh, was driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer east approaching Exit 32B (U.S. 40) east of Hagerstown when traffic abruptly slowed. Upon hitting the brakes, the tractor-trailer crossed into the acceleration lane at the U.S. 40 overpass and struck the bridge abutment. The impact resulted in the cab of the truck being thrown from the truck frame, causing a fire.
