Chambersburg man scammed out of thousands of dollars: police log

Chambersburg area

Dec. 12: A Chambersburg man, 61, was scammed out of more than $2,500, after a caller persuaded him into buying multiple gift cards, and deceived him in order to gain access to his computer and make fraudulent credit card transactions, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Dec. 22: A Fayetteville man, 67, shoved a 16-year-old girl to the ground during an argument at about 2 p.m. on Treher Road, Greene Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Dec. 28-Jan. 1: Someone egged a residence on St. Andrews Drive, Greene Township, causing damage to a window screen, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Dec. 29: William Gearhart, 36, was charged with DUI following a traffic stop at 11:19 p.m. on South Coldbrook Avenue, Chambersburg Police said. 

Dec. 30: A Chambersburg woman is to be charged with retail theft after she stole Mucinex blister packs from Dollar General, Philadelphia Avenue, by removing the item and placing the empty box back on the shelf, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Jan. 1: A Carlisle man was uninjured after he swerved to avoid hitting a deer and crashed a vehicle into a treet at about 11:13 p.m. on Rocky Mountain Road, Greene Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Mercersburg area

Nov. 10: Several houses and vehicles were egged in the area of Main Street, Peters Township, and Cool Hollow Road, Montgomery Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Waynesboro area

Jan. 1: Daniel Tyler Lee Helms, Waynesboro, was charged with strangulation, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and underage consumption after police responded to a domestic incident at 2:14 a.m. on Hamilton Avenue, Waynesboro Police said.
