Motorcyclist leads cops on high-speed chase from Greencastle to McConnellsburg, police say

GREENCASTLE -- A motorcyclist who led police on a high-speed chase of more than 20 miles on Thursday is being held in Franklin County Jail.

Hunter Michael Kramer, 18, of Newburg was unable to post $20,000 bond as of Saturday afternoon, according to online court records. 

Kramer ran red traffic signals on Pa. 16 in Greencastle and McConnellsburg during a chase where speeds exceeded 100 mph, according to court documents.

Kramer is charged with the felony of fleeing police and two misdemeanors of recklessly endangering and criminal mischief, court records show. He also faces 15 traffic violations, including exceeding the speed limit by 65 mph and failing to have a license to operate a motorcycle.

A trooper in on East Baltimore Street in Greencastle saw two motorcycles at 8:50 p.m. Thursday and noticed one did not have a license plate, according to court documents. He turned on his emergency lights and the motorcycle without the plate took off.

In Greencastle, the motorcycle passed stopped vehicles to the left and right and went through a red signal at South Washington Street, according to court documents. West of Greencastle, the motorcycle topped 100 mph in a 55 mph zone. It passed vehicles and continued through Mercersburg at a high rate of speed.

The trooper pulled beside the motorcycle in Fulton County, but was unable to identify the driver, according to court documents. He pulled in front of the motorcycle and tried to gradually bring the two vehicles to a halt. The motorcycle sped past the trooper and lightly struck the passenger side of the patrol vehicle.

In McConnellsburg, the motorcycle failed to stop at a stop sign and a red signal, according to court documents. The motorcycle turned left onto Back Run Road. After several miles, it turned left into a muddy field. The motorcycle tore up the field. The driver lost control of the motorcycle at the far end of the field. Troopers arrested the driver. The 2005 Kawasaki ZX636 was not insured or registered.

Kramer’s preliminary hearing is set for 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 8 in Franklin County Central Court.
