Linda Miller seeks seventh term as Franklin County register and recorder

CHAMBERSBURG -- Linda Miller, register of wills and recorder of deeds in Franklin County for 22 years, is running for re-election.

Miller announced that she intends to seek the Republican nomination for the four-year term.

“I love what I do,” said Miller, 63. “I’m not ready (to retire) yet. I want to keep going.  I’ve got more to do.”

Miller said she feels that she need to take care of her staff when they move to the new judicial center.

The office’s five employees annually handle records for 500 to 700 estates and for 18,000 to 19,000 real estate transactions – such as deeds, mortgages and land transfers.

She has worked in the office more than 31 years and has served as the county register and recorder since 1996.

Miller said she has enhanced the department to improve customer service and to make operations more efficient. She has continually updated the records management software.

Miller also has advocated for the county archival program. The program aims to reduce the cost of storing records and operating systems by promoting document scanning, digital storage and e-recording for the office of the register and recorder.

The elected position has an annual salary of $78,885 in 2018. Terms expire at the end of 2019 for 10 row officers, including county commissioner.

Miller is a past president of the Chambersburg Downtown Kiwanis Club and has served on the executive board of the Pennsylvania Register of Wills and Recorder of Deeds Association.

She and her husband, Sam, live in Chambersburg.
